New BBQ Joint

A couple of weekends ago we got the opportunity to check out the newest barbecue place in Panama City Beach, Moe's Original BBQ.

We were there early on a Saturday during Spring Break so there was no crowd and we got the opportunity to chat with the owners a bit.  New to the area, Ryan, Will and Trace are excited to create a place for locals and tourists to gather for good food and a casual atmosphere.

The new restaurant has a casual, country style interior that you would expect from a BBQ place. On the outside, there is more seating for those who would like to enjoy the sunshine and watch the tourists go by.

We ordered some ribs, a pulled pork sandwich and a side of smoked turkey.  They were all quite tasty and came with some delicious cornbread on the side.

The ribs were smoked and had a little bit of sauce on top, with more on the side.  I realized that I never used my side of sauce.. they were so good they didn't need more flavor.

I am not a baked beans fan (too sweet!) but I tried the ones at Moe's and they have turned me around. There is a sweetness but there is also a nice little kick that I loved!

Moe's Original BBQ is located at 14896 Front Beach Rd.  It is across the road from the beach and about half a mile East of Pier Park.

Margaritaville - A Popular Beachside Experience

On Wednesday I, along with my husband and two friends, took some time out to act like tourists and spend a couple of hours at Margaritaville.

This popular beachside restaurant, with its most perfect sunset viewing location (if you sit on one of the decks) is a fun spot to grab a drink, a meal or both!

First, I want to say that the staff at Margaritaville was exceptional.  From the hosts to the server (Dawn rocked!) to the dining room assistants who came by with our food or to pre-bus our table, the service was friendly, knowledgeable and without flaw.  The fact that we were right in the middle of one of the two biggest college spring break weeks gave this even more meaning.

The place was packed but we were seated fairly quickly at a table in the middle of the dining area.  (We will have to go back for that amazing sunset view!)

We started out with some drinks from the bar.  I had the Margarita Flight, a sampling of four different margaritas: The "Who's to Blame", "Blueberry Pomegranate", "Fins to the Left" and my favorite, "Last Mango in Paris". The drinks were all on the rocks and each one delicious in its own way.

The appetizers came out a few at a time.  We all shared some grilled shrimp skewers with a jerked glaze and coconut.  The island flavors were definitely interesting and everyone enjoyed these quite a bit. Next came some white cheddar cheese curds, a drunken shrimp skillet, asiago crab dip and some beef and pork tacos.

We each had an entree after sharing all of these appetizers.  Mine was the Black Grouper with a side of island rice and green beans.  I opted for the cilantro lime butter on my fish which was quite tasty. Others had the Jambalaya, the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and my second choice, the Chimichurri Flat Iron Steak with fries.

We were tempted by the desserts and saved just enough room to share a chocolate hurricane, a key lime pie and a gluten free brownie sundae.  (Ok, I will be honest, nobody really wanted any of my gluten free brownie)

While we ate and enjoyed our drinks, we watched as balloon artists on stilts made their creations for the guests in the restaurant.  The Jimmy Buffet music played and the atmosphere and Buffet inspired decor was all about fun!

Margaritaville offers something for everyone, with a menu featuring steaks, seafood, chicken as well as burgers and sandwiches.  They will even bring out a gluten free or vegetarian menu for those who prefer or need them.

Kids 12 and under can choose from a menu of items like cheeseburgers, fish and chips, mac and cheese and more.

Margaritaville is located on the Front Beach Road end of Pier Park, just across from the beach.
